Review:
Eating at Luna Park? Sounds like a joke, I know, but this new place, Deck, was surprisingly good. There were the usual brekky suspects, but then also interesting things like hotcakes with honeycomb. My girlfriend had North-African-style baked eggs with herbs, peppers and flatbread (the flatbread was almost like a savoury pancake), and I had devilled chicken livers on toasted brioche. Not light, sure, but really flavoursome and a really good idea, and for once in this town the livers weren't overcooked.
The setting is cool - overlooking the water - though the space is a bit yawning (probably better when it turns into a bar at night. The service was disorganised: friendly but clueless, and they kept bringing over other people's orders. And I can't say I rate the coffee - mine tasted burnt, while the missus said they'd given her a skim flat white rather than the regular FW she'd asked for, which is pretty cheeky.
But despite all that, the food was good - so good, in fact, that we want to go back for dinner and try the grand aioli or the couscous royale to share.
Beats the dagwood dogs, that's for sure. Check it out.
