Review:

I was at the Cheese Festival at Rosalie in Brisbane's inner western suburbs on Sunday and I was very impressed with a few of the Queensland wines on show. The first was a Summit Shiraz Pinot, an odd combination is what attracted me to try the wine. It is 60% Shiraz but neither portion outplays the other. What you end up with is a subtly balanced combination of both of these extreme opposite varieties. It was a treat with some of the local goat's cheeses. The second wine was a Barbera from Cloverly. It showed amazing varietal character and more so when you think it was a Queensland version of a lesser known Italian. Summit wines really impressed me on the day. I don't know if it was the amazing array of cheese available or that the two Summit wines were very cheese friendly... either way a great day. The Marsanne, whilst very mineral and bone dry to the palate with just a touch of honeysuckle in the middle was another cracker. I recall viewing a Landline show on Stanthorpe which also held Summit in high regard so I was very pleased to say I concur with the show's findings. Cloverly has an amazing cellardoor near where I live and I highly recommend Brisbane people to go and see it as well.
