Review:
Although I applaud Rockpool genius Neil Perry for his decision to re-launch his restaurant in order to 'get his life back', I can't help but selfishly wish the Rocks eatery was still in it's original form. My birthday 5-course tasting dinner was and still is the best meal I've ever had - better than Tetsuyas and Aria combined. Every flavour was better than the last and those passionfruit marshmallow petit fours... heaven.

rockpool R.I.P
the kitchen used very fresh ingedients but the application was horrible. the zuchini tartlet's pastry was horribly dry, the partridge pie had just enough great elements to tease but not satisfy... the passionfruit marshmallow petit fours were excellent, but after a passionfruit suoffle that had twice as much sugar as was neccissary the effect was lost on me.
did niel miss out on getting enough sweets as a kid?
overall there was a lack of synergy on all dishes. the level of deconstructed cuisine was taken a little to far.
definatly a case of bad cooks at home giving worship to someone who is doing things properly, after all the hype about how good it supposed to be theres nothing but dissapointment and a $400 hole in the wallet.
nothing wow about rubbery dory in tomato water, gold leaf on vegtables or having staff with thick accents. sorry but if your france or germany thats great, it means nothing but a negative when it comes to clear presentation and service.
