Angasi

Modern Australian

64a Main Rd, Binalong Bay , TAS
T (03) 6376 8222
Angasi’s relaxed and friendly mood, unpretentious dining room, broad deck and generous windows, which wrap around Binalong Bay, are just right for a restaurant that’s the heart of a seaside village. There’s a touch of city sophistication about the food but it’s not fussy or too complicated. Georges Bay clam and smoked oyster chowder is a delicious combination of two of north-east Tassie’s best ingredients, and the local mussels are also recommended. With 12 hours’ notice and a big budget, you can try lobster cooked five ways. So assured is the cooking that even dishes that sound like they could come unstuck – duck curry, peanut sauce, sticky rice and an unlikely smoked trout brandade – deliver. Desserts are good, especially brandied prune custard tart, and the small wine list has plenty of interesting choices, including the best local producers, such as Apsley Gorge and Freycinet.
