GT 2013 Restaurant Awards nominations

It’s probably not a bad time to take stock and remind ourselves that while many Australian restaurants are doing it tough right now, the past 12 months have been packed with many more high-profile openings than closings, and that good food and good times are as abundant around the country as they have ever been. If you’re an adventurous diner, times have never been better, and we’d like to think the places and faces shortlisted for this year’s GT Restaurant Awards are doing their bit. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony that launches our 2013 Australian Restaurant Guide next month, along with the big one: Restaurant of the Year. We hope you’ll join us in September.

So sad the fixation on the eastern states. Apart from FermentAsian in South Australia and Rockpool Bar & Grill in Western Australia, no other accolades for all of us west of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Tassy doesn't even rate a mention. Time to open your eyes perhaps?

@Eldert Hoebee Sad fixation with the eastern states? Thats like saying the ocean has a sad fixation being wet. 75% of the population is in NSW, Vic and QLD, so why not most of the best places to eat?

If nominations had anything to do with population density 1/4 of the nominations would be from outside the east. That would be more than double current numbers.

It is simply a case of better eateries per capita in the Eastern states.

I'm just hoping fermentAsian wins one for the little guys. Had lunch there last week and the food was fabulous. Wine? Brilliantly eclectic and now with burgundy. Just awesome.
