Bar Lourinhã

It would be easy to miss Bar Lourinhã if not for the excited hum emanating from this busy, notably Iberian-accented bar. Inside, old pictures of flowers and lakes line the walls along with decorative spoons, dried chillies and paella pans. High tables and a long, dark timber bar accommodate guests in a communal dining, shared-plate approach. A mostly European wine list supports food which is unpretentious (much like the well-schooled staff), allowing balance and flavour to speak for themselves. Pimientos de Padrón, kingfish “pancetta” or a salad of heirloom tomatoes with goat’s cheese all trade on simplicity itself. Angus beef pinchos (skewers) come pink and sour-sweet, braised pork neck gets a tart touch from baby capers, and rosewater infuses a gentle floral note in a tart pomegranate crema and pistachio praline. A great place for an informal night out.
