Best New Hotels 2007: Goldman 25hours, Frankfurt, Germany

Is it a club? Is it an art gallery? No – it’s Frankfurt’s funkiest new boutique hotel with 49 guestrooms stacked on seven floors, each with a different colour scheme. Ari Goldman, the creative force behind much of Frankfurt’s nightlife scene, directed the conversion of the old Henninger Hofes hotel complex into a contemporary open space where public areas – lobby, lounge, restaurant and bar – flow into one another and vintage tapestries are juxtaposed against modern wall treatments. In the centre of Frankfurt’s busy Ostend district, the hotel has been furnished by Frankfurt-based Designer’s House. Themed rooms, inspired by various Frankfurt personalities, add to the sense of whimsy – check out the Princess, Paris and Casino rooms. French fare and Pastis are on the menu at Goldman’s restaurant and bar.
