Best New Hotels 2008:Amankora Bumthang
The newest and most easterly of Aman’s string of super-luxe lodges in Bhutan, Bumthang just so happens to be next to a palace in the Choekhor Valley overlooking pine forests, apple orchards and farmers’ fields. Four separate buildings house the 16 suites, each with a traditional bukhari bed and terrazzo-clad bath. Hardware aside, the main point about Amankora (which means circular pilgrimage) is that visiting is a spiritual affair, and it’s a chance to experience one of the most unique and beautiful countries on earth.
We love The solitude at the top of the world.
Suites from about $1145, including all meals, house beverages and transfers,
