You may wonder if the overt faux-French touches – rustic distressed surfaces, exposed timber and accordéoniste – are not tongue-in-cheek, but there’s no doubting Bistro Vue is sincere when it comes to turning out authentic versions of Parisian bistro classics. Patrons, many dining à deux, hover over unashamedly nostalgic fare: hand-cut steak tartare with cornichons; a deeply flavoured version of the market-porters’ restorative, onion soup, enriched with beer and Gruyère; John Dory fillets à la meunière (grilled and doused in foaming butter, lemon and parsley); or melting duck confit with sautéed potatoes. Nods to a broader culinary palette come in the form of an Asian salad (to accompany seared tuna) and various cuts of wagyu which round out the boeuf selection. Pleasant staff may advise saving room for dessert, particularly the buttery and utterly transcendent pear tarte Tatin.
