The darling of the CBD suit crowd by day, at night Bistrode CBD changes from a time-driven business-lunch spot to a quiet, romantic evening venue. Candles bathe the columns and striped fabrics in soft, flickering light, and the brown ceiling adds warmth. Jeremy Strode’s confident, concise mod-British cuisine with an accent on offal fits the venue well. The menu changes frequently and you might find dishes uch as “lamb’s hearts and minds”, a clever combination of crumbed brains with thin slivers of seared heart and green leaves, or a zucchini flower tart showing off excellent pastry. The spatchcock with chilli oil and lemon is juicy, and superbly crunchy French fries make a good side dish for it. For dessert, the honey tart with peanut butter ice-cream is
difficult to top. The service is relaxed but informed, and the style and range of wines impressive and well matched to the food.
