Café Di Stasio

In a world where the term ‘icon’ is too readily applied, Café Di Stasio is a place where it can be bestowed confidently. For the past 20 years, Ronnie Di Stasio’s brilliant Fitzroy Street restaurant has been mining all the things that make dining out pleasurable – flavour, indulgence, theatre – and doing them in a style that should be recorded into a how-to textbook. Chef Steven Rofe knows when to tweak the classics – prawn linguine made magnificent with a robust crustacean-infused oil, superb just-seared tuna teamed with pancetta, capers and fennel – and when to leave quality to speak for itself (freshly shucked Pacific oysters, a brilliantly simple pork and beef ragù). But however much you might enjoy the oozing chocolate profiteroles or the lemony spinach saltati, the real enjoyment of eating at Di Stasio is about how it manages to effortlessly engage all the senses. A true icon.
