Foodwise, Enoteca is on the money: the best olive oil and cheeses, excellent house-baked bread, pasta and cured meats, prepared and presented with minimum fuss. The coolly elegant, blank-walled décor seems a slightly odd fit. But it’s hard to fault the kitchen’s handling of classic flavours: ultra-fresh tomato, mozzarella, garlic crostini and baby basil, and battered zucchini flowers stuffed with potato and salt cod, beautifully presented with a vivid smear of capsicum sauce. There’s subtlety and restraint in a risotto laden with prawns, zucchini and saffron, while blue-eye trevalla works wonders with a warm fregola, fennel and tomato salad, topped with paper-thin pancetta. The star of the night is a banana and milk chocolate semifreddo, prettily presented with tiny cubes of banana, caramel and smashed peanut brittle which is a salty-sweet assault on the senses.
