THE ITALIAN WINE AND FOOD FESTIVAL 2015
Where else can you get Stefano Manfredi pizza, a preview of the Popolo team's new restaurant and demonstrations by some of the city's finest Italian chefs all under one roof? At the Italian Wine and Food Festival of course. After five years in Sydney, the festival marks its milestone with a stellar program of pop-ups from the city's favourite Italianate restaurants, alongside a produce marketplace and 14 cooking demonstrations featuring names new and old from Andrew Cibej and Giovanni Pilu to Lucio Galletto and Richard Ptacnik.
Headlining the food offer is a sneak peek at Marta's menu, the new Roman eatery from Flavio Carnevale that will open next month in the Rushcutters Bay site formerly home to Popolo. Snack away on supplì alla Romana - pockets of rice, mince and mozzarella not unlike arancini - or go full throttle with rolled lamb on focaccia with lamb jus and Roman lettuce. Bacco Osteria e Espresso, another of this year's exciting Italian openings in Sydney, will also represent with a salad of warm lentils and Berkshire pork, fennel and rosemary sausage. Otto Ristorante, Balla and Lucio Pizzeria will also be there.
Big Poppa's are taking care of drinks with a roster of Negronis, Aperol spritzes and Americanos, while over in the produce stalls you can pick up cheeses and cured meats at Salt Meats Cheese, Turinese cola from Molecola or a loaf of Berkelo sourdough. There's also tastings of 24- and 36-month Parmigiano-Reggiano happening and Espresso Manfredi will offer free espresso all day.
