Right on Horseshoe Bay, Flying Fish juggles a café on the deck, offering brunch on weekends and basic lunches daily, while the restaurant inside focuses on fine-dining flourishes. Its lunch menu is simplified - several styles of fish and chips and a black Angus steak - but for evenings there are creative and exotic seafood twists, such as six styles of oysters, from crisp curry-fried with flying-fish roe to poached in shaved onion with sesame soy dressing. Highlights include poached scallops in pickled ginger jam with sesame wafers, wakame and beetroot paint, and a bold take on bouillabaisse: whole blue swimmer crab, giant prawns and scallops in crab bisque. It's rare to enjoy such splendid seafood within sight of the sea. The wine list is plentiful and diverse, with quality SA locals, other Australian regions and some internationals, and a strong boutique beer range, too.
