GT Travel Awards 2008: Best spa/health resort
Lake House & Salus Spa, Daylesford, Vic
It’s fitting that Daylesford, the home of Australian natural therapies, is also home to the country’s best spa. Salus Spa opened at the much-admired Lake House Small Luxury Hotel in 2004, offering the same hallmarks of outstanding quality and attention to detail that guests had come to expect from the 33-room hotel and its wildly successful restaurant and cellar. For a property recognised here and abroad as offering truly memorable experiences, Salus has proven to be a natural extension of the Lake House brand. The spa’s eight treatment areas range from two tree-houses fitted with hot tubs fed by natural mineral springs, to a couple’s room with an open fire that is particularly pleasant during the highland winter. The spa menu combines the simplicity of an alfresco sauna and Jacuzzi with elaborate facials that claim to resurface and rejuvenate the skin, and inventive body treatments that blend lime and ginger or frangipani and milk.
