Step into the long, narrow room housing Italian & Sons, and you will be transported to a more sophisticated food culture than the streets of Braddon would suggest. Pull up a Tolix chair at the salumia for cured meats and other interesting Italian varietals. For best results, go in numbers and graze on small dishes from the varied repertoire. Crunchy school prawns with aïoli contrast nicely with the acidity and bite of kingfish marinated in lime and chilli. More substantial offerings come in the daily specials, such as tender White Rocks veal in a subtle Marsala-based sauce. While the dessert list sounds fairly traditional, Amedei chocolate enlivens a flourless torte, as does the addition of Ligurian honey to panna cotta. The friendly buzz in this cool, contemporary space of smart wood-panelled walls and factory ceiling lamps won’t make the return trip to the real world any easier.
