Mad Cow

Steak

Ivy, Level 1, 330 George St, Sydney, NSW
T (02) 9240 3000
They’re crazy about the meat here at the top-of-the-line steakhouse in the good ship Ivy. Six or seven steaks on any given day form the centrepiece of the menu, and while they don’t go into as much detail about their provenance as some other temples to beef, the meat is well handled, some of it nicely dry-aged. If you’re expecting leather, mahogany and double-breasted suits, you may be surprised. Mad Cow puts a decidedly contemporary face on the steakhouse, with adept waiters in Ivy-branded jeans and a pale-and-lemon décor that’s a far cry from the blokey basements of old. The user-pays practice of serving the meat with nothing other than sauces and charging for any carb or green component isn’t going to be popular with everyone, but the quality of the entrées and desserts (bone marrow dumplings in chicken broth; grilled peaches with nougat ice-cream) provides some balance.
