Best New Hotels 2007: Mavida, Zell am See, Austria
Futuristic lounges, giant Casamilano beds, amazing views and a state-of-the-art spa are what set this alpine beauty – the first designer hotel in the region – apart from the rest. Interior designer Niki Szilagyi has gone for clear-cut lines and warm colours, as well as finishes in stone, slate, fine fabrics and leather. This 47-room getaway is minimalist in design but certainly doesn’t scrimp on the finer things in life. In the Silence Room, with its 10 waterbeds, guests can rest after their spa treatments. The Relax Room has 16 beds with views of the surrounding mountains. Produce from the hotel’s third-floor herb garden is incorporated into the menu and spa treatments. Choose wines from a walk-in glass ‘vinothèque’.
