Montrachet

French

224 Given Tce, Paddington, Brisbane, QLD
T (07) 3367 0030
Montrachet is every bit the bustling French bistro. It has the usual bistro acoustic challenges, but, perched at your linen-topped table, your Laguiole cutlery just-so, a sense of calm descends. For ditherers, the charcuterie is an eye-catching entrée, comprising sweet serrano ham, saucisson sec and terrine de campagne. Waistcoated staff bring new meaning to the word service – no wonder so many of Brisbane’s harried professionals spend quality time here. When we visit, fish of the day has a Queensland twist, a tranche of coral trout atop a classic saffron cream sauce. Steak frites is pure French pleasure – bronzed twice-cooked chips and grain-fed eye-fillet make a perfect mouthful. Costing less than $10, Thierry Galichet’s desserts are the best bargains in town. Lime bavarois is as lush as the Muscat de Beaumes de Venise that should also accompany it. Montrachet is deservedly an icon.
