This vibrant restaurant and terrace bar is an authentic and beloved outpost of Barcelona in the city’s legal district. Switched-on staff, a funky fit-out and well-chosen wines with a distinct Spanish accent complement a menu that rarely misses the mark. Hand-filleted Cantabrian anchovies draped on flat croûtons with a scoop of smoky tomato sorbet cleverly echo the Catalan classic pa amb tomaquet. Bite-sized calamari rolls with aïoli and guindilla pepper, and butifarra, hot-pepper pork sausages made in house, evoke other Catalan tastes. The kitchen fire pit turns out juicy barbecued octopus and crowd-pleasing rice dishes, including the black beauty of al dente bomba rice, squid ink, cuttlefish and aïoli. Desserts are Hispanic greats such as sugar-dusted churros with dense drinking chocolate and the creamy indulgence of sopa Inglesa with Pedro Ximénez jelly.
