Definitely the best pizza in Manhattan can be found at Lombardi's on Spring Street in Little Italy. The place oozes atmosphere, and is cheap as chips. Pizzas are cooked in a coal fired oven.

Hi - in April 2010 these were our faves

Dos Caminos - quite a few around Manhatan - great chicken and fab mojitos

Cafe Gittane in Nolita (French Moroccan) - great coffee (hard to find in NYC) and we had brekky there - amazing avocado on toast with chilli and great baked eggs Website - http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/cafe-gitane/menus/main.html

Good lunch option under $10 - Hale and Hearty soups - various locations
website - http://haleandhearty.com/

Gourmet Garage Soho (and other locations) - good lunch option under $10 - pre-made rolls with fresh ingredients from Deli

Agree with post above for special meal try Balthazaar, Budakkan or have also heard great reports of The Little Owl (http://www.thelittleowlnyc.com/)
