A visit to this typical old-style trattoria involves a hike out to the suburbs between the Via Appia and the Via Tuscolana, but the food is well worth the journey. Expect all the hearty Roman classics from chef Matteo Ballerini, from maltagliati con ceci (pasta with chickpeas) and tonnarelli cacio e pepe (pasta with cheese and pepper) to abbacchio al forno (roast spring lamb) and coda alla vaccinara (braised oxtail with celery hearts and a pinch of chocolate). The fact that the place is a favourite haunt of Roman Slow Foodies is a seal of approval in itself.
