Hands down, this is the kind of place you take out-of-towners to prove a point. Otto is Sydney to the max – shimmery water views, yacht-side dining, high prices and masterful mod-Italian food. A thoughtfully composed salad of crunchy strips of pig’s ears and pig’s-head terrine gives way to trencherman-sized plates of pasta.
The signature strozzapreti with Yamba prawns comes with chopped calamari, black olives and nutty garlic rounding out the sweetness of the sugo. It’s a great medley. The balsamic vinegar semifreddo with
black pepper sorbet and fresh strawberries is a winning combination, too – seriously refreshing without being too tart. Water and wines are topped up with phantom stealth and waiters are gregariously helpful in that Italianate way that makes you think you really should stay and have another Amarone from the exceptional wine list.
