Pearl

With Pearl Café now taking care of bar/brunch business a few blocks away, the restaurant side of Pearl is thriving under the undivided attention. The dining room mixes upholstered and hard surfaces in a luxurious, sexy way and service continues to impress. The wine list is wide-ranging and menu-appropriate. Geoff Lindsay plays with a clever mix of Asian flavours interspersed with nods to the Middle East and Europe. The menu has familiar moments – dropping the red duck curry would cause regulars to riot – but even stalwarts such as brilliant yellowfin tuna seared on one side and served with a superbly balanced smoked fish salad arrive feeling fresh, or refreshed. Oysters teamed with mint and chilli nahm jim, poached lamb with anchovy and green olive tapenade, Turkish delight and rose petal ice-cream all demonstrate a kitchen operating better than ever.
