Picture that relaxed Italian-leaning eatery you wish you lived a short stroll from. It’s small enough to classify as cosy and the menu has enough great-sounding seasonal dishes to leave you torn. An entrée of chicken and mushroom cannelloni is deeply flavoured and rich and the texture of toasted breadcrumbs is a knowing addition, but it’s too large for a starter. On the lighter side, the fig and prosciutto salad beautifully blends the best of the season. The wine list is small, with a number of Italian wines that sit well with the food. Something red and peppery would go well with the meltingly tender braised lamb shanks in a rich tomato-based sauce studded with emerald-green olives. Desserts can be hit or miss: roast vanilla peaches lack the flavour of truly ripe fruit. The coffee, however, is always excellent and the service just the way you’d like it at your local – friendly and relaxed.
