Since its new fit-out, Restaurant Two has shaken some of its corporate feel and while the charcoal and white colour scheme may give it a more relaxed ambience, this is still one of the last bastions of formal dining in Brisbane, with prices to match. The menu reads like a rollcall of Queensland producers. Hervey Bay scallops are the hero of an entrée “moussaka” that’s a balanced contrast of texture and flavour, from the sweetness of the scallop to the umami punch of the taramasalata, smoked tomato butter, eggplant and battered onion rings. A main course of Rannoch Farm quail on a vivid pea purée is served with a barley and ham hock risotto, making for a well-flavoured and hearty dish. Service is smooth and unobtrusive, while the wine list, especially after a recent tweaking, goes above and beyond.
