The name is a nod to France's south-west gastronomic heartland, a region as famous for its wine as its classic dishes. But don't come seeking regional rigour at the South Bank version. It's on the river, but this casually glam, smooth-lined Aquitaine casts its net wider for inspiration. Crisp-coated snapper beignets partnered with a vibrant peperonata get things off to a strong start. The anise-scented bouillabaisse arrives tinged gold with saffron, yielding a haul that includes Moreton Bay bug, mussels and salmon, alongside excellent house bread. Bordeaux gets a look-in on the affordable wine list, as do Burgundy, Alsace and more, along with Australian-grown French-style wines. Desserts are equally hard to pigeonhole but just as worthy of the notional travel miles. A summer "Snickers" with peanut-butter ice-cream cups and dramatic caramel twists should sweeten even hidebound provincialists.
