Il Lido

Miles of spectacular coast considered, Il Lido is one of Western Australia's few beachfront restaurants that serves food on par with its glittering ocean views. The setting - an airy converted heritage building with canteen-style dining - is a picture of understated charm; so too the confident, easygoing service. Fresh and fun Italian is the go, starting with pillowy blue cheese-and-ricotta fritters, smartly paired with walnuts, honey and plump figs. Al dente linguine studded with crabmeat, rich confit garlic and fresh tomato is typical of the kitchen's pasta prowess, but don't overlook the meat and fish. Smoky spatchcock scattered with quinoa, corn kernels and fried zucchini flowers is a reminder that Italy can be so much more than pasta curled around a fork. Still not convinced? The extensive, Italian-leaning cellar is a thoroughly compelling exhibit B, backed up by tempting desserts such as panna cotta with strawberries.
