The big night out, a deal-sealer lunch, the family reunion or that "will you?" date are all accommodated at this sandstone fine-diner with a classy, uptown atmosphere and seamless service. Head chef Matt Fury delivers punch from the kitchen in dishes such as firm Hervey Bay scallops with a quenelle of carrot purée, bitey mango chutney, creamy dhal and a scoop of apple gel, or tender, sweet New England lamb with rustic vegetables coupled with puffed amaranth. Desserts have always starred here, but a syrupy raspberry soup served with fresh berries and sweet raspberry leather is overwhelming, especially for its delicate meringue wafers and Champagne jelly. The panna cotta with puffed barley and malted milk ice-cream, however, is first class. An extensive, informed wine list has something for everyone, from business types chasing high-end shiraz to romantics looking for something French.
