Now, here's a song of ice and fire to tide you over till the next season of Thrones: spicy new Melbourne favourite Belle's Hot Chicken is bringing its cayenne-blasted Nashville-style wings, whiskey and natural wine to Icebergs in Bondi for three Sundays over the warmer months.
Icebergs chef Monty Koludrovic says he's really excited about the collaboration with Morgan McGlone. "It's been years since we've done anything together, big meals aside, so I thought doing something in the bar on a Sunday seemed like a really good fit. Our regular Icebergs Sundays have such a cool vibe, so there couldn't be a better time to start slinging baskets of Sex Panther fried chicken and pouring some killer natural juice."
Belle's chef and proprietor McGlone, a vocal supporter of the natural wine movement, copped some flak when he announced a strong focus on wines imported from France and Italy when he first rebooted the Fitzroy restaurant with fellow chef Aaron Turner earlier this year. But in the months since, Belle's has (interestingly for a restaurant that specialises in very spicy fried food) come to be a favourite hangout among local winemakers, especially those of a natural bent.
It's safe to say that customers fronting up to the Sydney cameos can expect vinous adventure as much as incendiary poultry. Unleash the Sex Panther!
Belle's Hot Chicken pops up at the Icebergs Bar, Sundays 16 November, 28 December and 18 January. Icebergs Dining Room & Bar, 1 Notts Ave, Bondi Beach, NSW (02) 9365 9000.
