A summer experiment to expand the Barossa's sophisticated Italian cooking school, café and enoteca Casa Carboni into a Friday night wine bar has won so much local support that proprietors Fiona and Matteo Carboni will continue the practice indefinitely. From 5pm to 8pm on Fridays, "aperitivo" sessions feature flights of natural wines the Carbonis import from Europe (four glasses for $40) complemented by casual food. The carte includes a $20 pasta dish (made with Turanici pasta) but most popular are tapas plates (fried sardines in saor on toasted sourdough, mini piadine with prosciutto and fresh cheese) each priced at no more than a fiver.
