A self-styled space for "makers, foodies and local creatives", The Hamlet is a dining precinct within a dining precinct and a microcosm of Braddon's post-automotive identity. In this former garage space halfway down Lonsdale Street, a cluster of vans sends out everything from old-fashioned milkshakes to Peruvian street food, while a handful of vendors offer everything from ceramics and jewellery to fashion and more. Chanchito - a Peruvian sandwich of slow-cooked pork belly and sweet potato sold at the Mr Papa van - is a standout option. The humble BrodDog (in kransky, Vienna frankfurt and pork-free options) enjoys a cult status akin to that of the Brodburger sold south of the lake, and there's wood-fired pizze at 10" Custom Pizzeria, where you design your own pizza. Live music plays most nights, while macarons from Little Dreams or doughnuts and Vietnamese iced coffee from Chasing Mr Morris end (or start) things on a sweet note.
The Hamlet, lunch and dinner Tue-Sun, 16 Lonsdale St, Braddon, ACT.
