Its location among prime vineyards lends a picturesque backdrop to the indoor/outdoor dining space, and courteous staff work hard to make lunch a seamless, relaxed affair. The deep local and international wine list is focused on winemaker Ben Riggs’ vintages. On the food front, the seasonal dégustation offers an affordable voyage through the breadth of the genial menu. If à la carte tempts, start with the briny gravlax of ocean trout, refreshed with peppery radish and tangy micro-herbs; a perfect foil for the heartier dishes to follow. Char-grilled saltbush lamb rump shows judicious sweetness to match a rich accompanying ratatouille, but rabbit and pork sausages, in all their gamy glory, are the showstoppers on the day.
