Unfortunately I had a disappointing meal to The Press Club. We were treated oddly by the staff after we said we just wanted a la carte and not the degustation menu. It was a 9.00pm sitting and we just didn't want that much food! The entre was fine, although it seemed like one of the courses from the degustation menu only double of everything. It was the main course which causes me to post this. Noted as The Dory - the fish presented was not dory, it was too thick a fillet to be any type of dory, john, mirror or ?. The plate was hot, the fish was hot, the beans were refridgerator cold as was everything else on the plate. It was a very strange way to present the dish. It spoilt the evening for me. My friends enjoyed their meals but not the service. SH

It's not unusual to see the same dishes in both the a la carte and degustation menus (but of different sizes). The dish may have started life as an entree or main and become a bit of signature piece for a particular chef. Degustations are some times talked about as a way to taste snippets of the best things that a particular chef can produce. Did you feel comfortable enough to ask about or comment on the temperature differences? I'm guessing not, if the waiting staff treated you oddly from the get go. As hard as it sometime is to do, it's important to give that feedback. Fish substitution can happen for sure. The one I can think of encountering typically is Nile Perch:Barramundi. I would be really surprised that a restaurant of the calibre of the Press Club would intentionally substitute a fish without telling you. It may have have come down to someone in the kitchen with less experience accepting an order and not realising the difference, or perhaps in the pre-service rush information didn't get from the kitchen to the waiting staff about any menu changes. But we all trust our senses and experience and you felt something was not quite right. Again, if in doubt, flag it with or ask the waiting staff. I hope your next experience isn't so disappointing :)

Can't agree with you more lemonbun. It's always best to approach any issues that arise head on with staff so that there aware of how your experience is going and know if you aren't enjoying it. At least that way they then have the opportunity to remedy the situation.
