The Courthouse

Calling The Court House a gastropub is almost an injustice to this restaurant’s French-leaning food. It may share digs with an out-front public house and maintain a happily relaxed atmosphere, but in terms of giving diners a fix to be remembered, it competes directly with more esteemed and expensive places across town. An entrée of scallops, bone marrow, crisp bacon shards and beetroot wafers is an inspired combination. Yet a willingness to let ingredients speak for themselves is evident in a main where pan-roasted veal fillet is simply adorned with a pancetta-wrapped, Stilton-stuffed fig. All top-drawer. With a wine list that highlights gems from lesser-known local producers, and a memorable dessert (baked figs, honeycomb bits and ice-cream, and a piece of spiced pastry), a night at The Court House becomes very special.
