Convincing Adelaide to embrace shared plates hasn't been easy, though The Pot's mod take on a classic bistro has a winning mix of big flavours, a superb international wine list and cool atmosphere. The restaurant is open to the street and the shabby-chic appeal of raw timber walls and exposed kitchen encourages diners to relax around small wooden tables or a tall central shared bench. The food is generous and rustic, from rich appetisers of truffle, mushroom and raclette croquettes through to such outstanding salads as green pea and mint tabbouleh, smart seafood, meat and charcuterie dishes. Try suckling pig on a cabbage, apple and dill salad, a pot of mussels and cockles in Pernod and citrus sauce, or sticky braised lamb with macaroni and cheese. Many linger for another glass from the impressive list with farmhouse cheeses or fun desserts, from a playful Eton mess to rich cherry clafoutis.
