Hit the roof

What to do when your home is a 1910 Art Nouveau palace on the shores of Lake Como but you're running out of room?

What to do when your home is a 1910 Art Nouveau palace on the shores of Lake Como but you’re running out of room? In the case of Grand Hotel Tremezzo, the only way was up. The grand Italian Lakes hotel this season opened the doors on its new rooftop suites, all with their own private terraces and spa pools. The eight suites were built onto the existing rooftop to make the most of the views out across the lake to Bellagio and Riviera delle Azalee. What’s more, they can be combined to make one eight-room penthouse. The family-owned Grand Hotel Tremezzo also just revealed its new honeymoon suite, Suite Maria, named after Maria Mallone, grandmother of its present co-owner, Valentina de Santis. Rooftop suites from €650 (plus 10 per cent VAT); Suite Maria from €1000 (plus 10 per cent VAT).
