Not all campsites are created equal. Wilpena Pound Resort's new tented retreats bring a dose of safari glamour to the South Australian landmark.

The 15 new safari-style canvas tents are set away from the main resort and campsite, and all feature ensuite bathrooms, gas heating, reading lamps and personal decks. There's an open dining area for 30 people, and a "bush butler" on hand.

New owner Anthology group - also operators of NT's luxe Wildman Wilderness Lodge - has also just completed a refurbishment of Poddy Dodger's Bar and Captain Starlight's Restaurant, capping a two-year-long overhaul of the resort. Wilpena Pound's luxury tents start from $340 per couple in low season.
