Wine bars don't often win art prizes for "beautifying the city" but Vinhanen has done just that in Nørrebro, or Nørrebronx as Copenhagen's grungy northern borough is dubbed. Seeking to open a high-quality bar in their 'hood, Vinhanen's four owners enlisted local artists, including renowned sculptor Bjørn Nørgaard, to create everything from the lighting to the handmade-brick floor. To keep prices down, Vinhanen (which means "wine tap") sells French and Italian wines from large tanks. You can even take it home in a refillable bottle for $10 as 5000 Nørrebronxites have done since the bar opened early last year.
