An avenue lined with coiffed greenery and manicured herb gardens hints at the precise, clever food that awaits at this elegant, airy dining room with blond timber floors and stone walls. The menu travels from East – masala goat samosas with red and yellow lentils – to West –local octopus with Parma ham, or watermelon and sheep’s feta salad. A highlight is the carefully structured vegetarian fare, from crisp miso tofu with a salty cluster of edamame to a tasting plate featuring a “baklava” of sweet onions, a vegie-filled omelette roll with chilli jam and deep-fried zucchini flower filled with pecorino risotto. Desserts
are playful – the best is a just-set, almost-savoury blue cheese bavarois served with a hunk of fresh honeycomb and a vast sail of lavosh. Service is sprightly and attentive, and the wine list mixes Xanadu releases with those from the company’s other vineyards.
