Update (Monday, 30 January):
Following criticsm regarding long queues, sold out food and overselling tickets beyond capacity, Carriageworks are offering refunds for their Chinese New Year Night Market, held at the weekend. Information on how to receive a refund is below in their full statement, as seen on their Facebook event.
“We hear you and apologise that Saturday night was not the night that some of you wanted or expected and we want to make it right. The Night Markets are meant to be a great night. We know the crowds and service times need to be sorted out and we have been working on it. Clearly we still have work to do and the team are talking to everyone involved.
We are finalising the details on how to process refunds. If you would like a refund please email us on [email protected] quoting your full booking name and point of purchase (Ticketmaster or Sydney Festival) by Thursday 2 February 5pm and we will be back in touch via email.
We appreciate your views and are working to make the Night Markets as good as they can be.”
Following its popular series of night markets in 2016, Carriageworks is holding another on 28 January this year. The date marks the first night of Chinese New Year, and the closing night of Sydney Festival.
The market will be overseen by Kylie Kwong, who’s brought together a line-up of over 50 stallholders, taking inspiration from the bustling streets of Harajuku in Tokyo, Hongdae in Seoul and AnFu Lu in Shanghai. And make no mistake; it’s all about the food.
Highlights revealed so far include Billy Kwong’s pork dumplings with ginger and tamari, O Tama Carey’s Lankan Filling Station and a stall from the (now closed) Korean favourite Moon Park. Other stalls to look forward to are Good Luck Pinbone, Bar Brosé, Long Chim and The Dolphin.
The drinks offering will also be first-rate, with wines from Rootstock Sydney and inventive cocktails from the CBD’s soda and cocktail bar PS40.
DJ Tyson Koh will keep things lively, providing the beats for the night.
