Our restaurant critics’ picks of the latest and best eats around the country right now: Gaslight Bistro, New Farm.
Creative yet casual pre-cinema snacking? Gaslight has got it covered. Kick off with a big bowl of salt and vinegar potato wafers, and a glass from the kind of crafty list you’d expect from the same people behind South Brisbane’s Hoo Ha Bar. Add in house-made wagyu pastrami, served warm with rye, dill pickles and goat’s cheese. Share plates change often here – and you can taste the ambition radiating from the kitchen. Nab a table on the undercover deck out front overlooking Brunswick Street and you’ll find plenty of pre-show entertainment strolling past. Just keep the heritage-listed New Farm Cinemas in your sights if you want to get to a movie – it’s easy to become distracted by the full-bore flavours here. And if you do? Order a second glass and some charred broccoli florets with juicy chunks of house hot-smoked salmon, boosted with a salty lemon and parmesan curd. Sorted.
