Even after 10 years, some things at Bar Lourinhã – like the kingfish pancetta, salt-cured and dressed in a lemon-thyme oil – never change. Other things, like the interior, sometimes do. A makeover has seen the high tables that flanked the bar replaced with banquette seating and low marble tables, making the space feel bigger and brighter. At the bar, the same antique bric-a-brac under strings of dried garlic and chilli provide plenty to peer at if you can divert attention away from the tapas: crunchy zucchini flowers swollen with queso fresco, plump white anchovies on puffs of fried bread, and porky croquetas. For raciones, charry octopus, corn and Manchego is a must, while the blood-orange cream cloaked under a layer of bitter caramel is an excellent finish. The comprehensive, mostly Mediterranean wine list makes it easy to find something to match.
