Močan & Green Grout is the antithesis of comfortable fine dining. From a cramped corner workshop in New Acton, a couple of mates started offering great coffee and toasties in between repairing bikes. Breakfast evolved into lunch, and then a modest menu of share plates by night. Op-shop cutlery, retro lamps and recycled-timber walls give Močan a beach-shack vibe. Staff are young and cheerful and a fully open kitchen adds to the atmosphere. Entrees include super-fresh South Coast oysters, mildly smoked octopus, or a spicy Crookwell steak tartare that's as bright as a beetroot. Larger plates reveal Middle-Eastern influences (caramelised cauliflower, pine nuts, currants and fall-off-the-bone beef shin; smoked yoghurt, paprika and lamb shoulder). Limited dessert options include a standout "cheesecake"in the form of a quenelle of macadamia and white chocolate. And make the most of the compact wine list, now that the venue is finally licensed.
