The folks at Tea Festivals Australia are taking over Carriageworks for one day this August for a celebration of specialty loose-leaf tea. The festival will feature a tea market overflowing with, brews and tisanes from Ruby Chai, Silvertip Speciality Teas, Bodhi Organic Tea and more, as well as teaware and other objects for the home. For the teatime snack enthusiasts among us, there will be plenty of nibbles big and small while Sydney locals like Cornersmith, Bibim Bowl and Black Pantry are on-hand to cater to hungry festival-goers.

A porcelain tasting cup is included in the ticket price so you can sample infusions all day, while over at the DIY tea blending station more discerning tea drinkers can blend, package and take home their very own custom brew.

Ticketed talks and workshops promise educational tastings, demonstrations and hands-on sessions exploring topics like native Australian teas and bush food, baking with tea, kombucha and more. For those interested in the Zen aspects of tea-drinking, an interactive contemporary tea ceremony will be hosted by Japanese tea ceremony enthusiasts from Ueda Sōko Ryū Australia.

Sydney Tea Festival, August 20, 9am-4pm, Carriageworks, 245 Wilson St, Eveleigh, NSW. Entry $15.50, tickets to workshops extra. Tickets available online.
