Australian Gourmet Traveller recipe for Mint Julep for a Great Gatsby party

Mint Julep
This cocktail makes the perfect start to a Gatsby-inspired party - F Scott Fitzgerald, after all, made it the drink of choice for his Daisy Buchanan. Traditionally, a silver beaker or a handled glass is used to keep the drink refreshingly frosty.


  • 5 spearmint sprigs
  • 1 tbsp caster sugar
  • Finely crushed ice
  • 90 ml Bourbon whiskey

    Press four spearmint sprigs and sugar in the base of a chilled glass. Pack with crushed ice, pour over Bourbon and stir until glass frosts (1-2 minutes). Top with remaining spearmint sprig and serve.
