The rising popularity of “bowl food” might be inextricably linked to the “wellness” industry, but for us, there’s still joy to be in the combination of rice, not-too-heavy protein, vegetables and herbs. Pokes and chirazi zushi are good places to start – riff on whatever seafood looks fresh and good, like in our kingfish poke with pickled ginger ponzu, or brown rice chirashi zushi with trout and roe. Seeking a bit more body? The beef taco rice and bibimbap deliver big flavour without weighing you down.
