REVIEW
Sardinian warmth meets assured technique and an Italian-leaning wine list in this cosy South Yarra dining room. Pietro Porcu may not be in the kitchen full-time these days, but his mark is still on every meal. His farm at Yarck informs much of the menu, showcasing sweet Dorper lamb, suckling pig and kid goat. One of the great joys of dining at Da Noi has always been the element of surprise. Not only does the chef’s menu change daily, but the dishes also differ between tables, as the switched-on staff confer to deliver a bespoke feast. Start perhaps with seafood antipasti of confit salmon, skate terrine, and seared tuna with the umami pop of soy jelly. Next a pasta course – maybe half-moon parcels of potato, mint and pecorino fanned across rabbit and sage ragù. For main courses, Porcu’s meats feature in robust roasts and braises, before a light, refreshing dessert – lemon tart with scorched meringue, say – sends you on your way.
