Wine and shelter

The fifth Mama Shelter, in the group of design- and budget-focused hotels designed by Philippe Starck, has opened in the centre of Bordeaux in a 1930s former gas company headquarters. Described as an "urban kibbutz", there are 97 tech-savvy rooms from $105, a restaurant, pizzeria, two bars and live music on weekends - and a table-tennis club in the basement. 19 Rue Poquelin Molière.
