Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc is many things: one of the most glamorous hotels on the Côte d'Azur, a source of hedonistic inspiration for the likes of Picasso, Graham Greene and F Scott Fitzgerald, a favourite retreat for the A-list since 1870. It's also officially palatial, a title bestowed on the hotel this northern summer by the French government.
Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc.
Overlooking the Mediterranean from a cliff on Cap d'Antibes, the hotel is one of three new "palaces" - alongside newcomers Peninsula Paris and Le Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France in the Caribbean - and the 19th in France. These hotels are judged to have more facilities than five-star properties, higher service standards and contribute "to the spread of French culture".
